How do I get my art out there for the public to see?

What is the best way to go about this? I have fine art nude projection photography I would like to sell. I don’t know how to go about doing this. Do I look for an art dealer? I really don’t know what services they provide for new artists. Gallery? What does a gallery do for an artist, especially dealing in photography? What are the benefits of putting on a show for the public? How? I don’t know anything about the ins and outs of this business. All I know is I have some art and I want to get it out there.

Do you consider yourself a fine artist? Then get a professional-looking portfolio together and show it to gallery-owners or managers. “Professional-looking” means a dozen clean, finished-looking works. Ask the gallery owner to look through your work so he/she can represent you in the gallery. If they turn you down (the usual case) ask them how you can improve your work, of if there’s another gallery that would be better for your work. In other words, talk to them about your work. They are the professionals of the REAL art-world, and can advise you. The gallery will charge anywhere from 40 to 60 percent commission. For this, they should send out mailings, have postcards or other materials printed, and generally promote you to their customers or potential buyers. A good gallery earns their money. A bad gallery exploits their artists, often just steals their work. Have a signed contract. Make sure they give you a receipt for all work you turn over to them.
